Microguard

The problem of hospital acquired infections is a great concern to the general public and the cleanliness of hospitals is a key political issue. The emergence of micro-organisms that have become resistant to antibiotics, in particular MRSA, is a major concern as they are very contagious and difficult to treat. Prevention of cross-contamination is paramount.

As one of the principal suppliers of curtains and bedding to the NHS, Francis Price Contracts have developed a new fabric that contributes to better management of microbial contamination in hospitals. Francis Price can now offer their customers a base fabric with Microguard, a permanent anti-microbial coating.

Textiles such as cubicle curtains and bedding are handled regularly by staff, patients, and visitors and bacteria from their hands are transferred onto the textiles. This newly developed Microguard treatment will kill micro-organisms on contact and so prevent them from multiplying on the surface of the fabric.

Microguard kills a wide range of micro-organisms on contact, such as Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) Escherichia coli and Aspergillus niger. The growth of moulds, mildew and fungi is also inhibited, extending the life of the product and reducing staining and odours.
